I'm currently building a homelab and starting off by setting up two authentication servers: a primary server and a replicated backup. I'm considering using FreeIPA on AlmaLinux for this purpose, hosted on a NUC 6 with 8GB of RAM. Given that we have around 10 users, do you think this setup is sensible? Also, should I consider upgrading the RAM? This system will be used to authenticate TrueNAS and MAAS, where MAAS manages services like Authentik for external use. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If you don't have any Windows infrastructure to worry about, I'd say FreeIPA is a solid choice. It's designed well for Linux environments. If you're feeling unsure about which platform to go with, I suggest considering CentOS Stream, as it's a community LTS platform linked closely with FreeIPA.
