Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a bind here and could really use your help. I recently upgraded my setup and now I'm stuck. My build includes an MSI MPG X570S Max Carbon WiFi motherboard, AMD 5900X CPU, and an RTX ROG Strix 2060. I've got 32GB of Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM and an Arctic Freezer 2 240 cooler. Last week, I decided to make a couple of updates: I installed a Gigabyte Windforce 4060 and swapped my RAM for 32GB of Corsair Vengeance RGB. Everything booted up fine until I decided to update my BIOS from 2022 to the 2025 version. After doing the update, my PC won't boot. Sometimes I can access the BIOS, but it shuts down due to CPU temperatures rising above 100°C. I've tried reverting back to an older BIOS and even removed the CMOS battery, but I'm still having issues. Can anyone explain how a BIOS update could cause my CPU to overheat like this? Thanks for any assistance!

Just a thought—when you say the older BIOS 'worked', did it actually fix your temp issues or just allow it to boot? That overheating is still a big concern.
It sounds like your CPU temperature readings are off, possibly due to the new BIOS version. It's not likely that your CPU is actually overheating unless there's an issue with the cooler, so check that everything is connected properly.
That's been on my mind too. It was working perfectly fine before the update and then just went crazy afterwards.
Make sure your cooler is seated correctly! Hot radiator pipes can mean it might not be functioning right.
What specific CPU are you using? Sometimes BIOS updates for newer CPUs can drop support for older models, so it’s worth checking.
I'm using a 5900X. The previous BIOS I reverted to says it supports 5000 series, which includes my CPU.
Some recent updates for older AM4 motherboards have been known to limit support for older Ryzen CPUs when integrating 5000 series support. You might want to look into that.
Right, my CPU is indeed the 5900X, so maybe that's part of the issue.
Did you double-check that you downloaded the right BIOS for your specific motherboard? Using the wrong version could definitely lead to problems.
Yeah, I grabbed it straight from the MSI website, and even the model picture matched, so I'm pretty sure it's correct.
The older BIOS installed fine, but my CPU is still spiking to 107°C, which is worrying!
