Upgrading RAM for Better Gaming Performance

Hey everyone! I have an ASUS TUF Gaming FX505 laptop that has served me well so far. However, I've noticed that some newer games require higher minimum specs to run smoothly. While my processor and graphics card are just slightly outdated, I really need more RAM. Currently, I have 8GB, but the games I want to play recommend at least 16GB. If I upgrade my RAM, will I be able to run these games more smoothly, even if I have to lower some graphics settings? Also, what should I look for when buying new RAM? Any advice would be super helpful, thanks!

You're definitely on the right track thinking about upgrading to 16GB of RAM! Going from 8GB to 16GB should greatly improve performance, especially in newer games. Your laptop likely has two slots for RAM, so if you currently have a single 8GB stick, you can just add another 8GB stick to maximize your RAM without replacing what you already have. But if you have two 4GB sticks, that’s a different story as you'd need two new 8GB sticks.
To check how many RAM sticks you have, you can run the command in cmd: `wmic memorychip get capacity, speed, manufacturer`. That’ll tell you what you're working with!

Exactly! And remember, it’s usually best to use RAM sticks of the same size and speed to avoid any compatibility issues. When shopping, you should definitely look for 'DDR4 2666MHz' RAM like your current stick. Matching the specs is key to ensure they play well together!

It's good to hear you're looking to upgrade! I just wanted to mention that upgrading your RAM could potentially help with that lag you've noticed in Marvel Rivals. If the game was running fine before and now lags, it might be due to those extra graphics or physics calculations in the latest updates. So yes, more RAM can help, and just make sure you're buying DDR4 2666MHz RAM for compatibility. Good luck!

If you're noticing heavy frame drops during action, it sounds like the RAM upgrade could definitely help alleviate that. Just keep an eye on whether you need a second stick of 8GB or if you need to swap both for 16GB, depending on your current configuration!
