I'm trying to find a way to increase the storage space on my C drive, which is currently full. My backup disk, labeled as D, was set up when I bought my laptop and is taking up most of the allocated storage. I really have no idea how to proceed with this, so any guidance would be appreciated!

It sounds like you might need to dig into your current disk space. Sometimes the C drive can be cluttered with junk files—check for temp files, caches, and logs that can take up space. Cleaning those out might give you some extra room before you tackle any resizing.
You may have some trouble resizing disks while your operating system is running. You could use third-party software to shrink the D drive and expand the C drive. However, a quick fix would be to move some files from your C drive to D. For instance, check your Downloads folder—there might be stuff there you can offload. Also, consider using Wiztree; it's a free tool that shows you what files are eating up your space.
