How Can I Determine My PC’s Bottleneck Before Upgrading?

I'm planning some upgrades for my gaming rig and I want to know if I'm currently facing a bottleneck between my CPU and GPU. I have a Ryzen 5 5600X paired with a Radeon 7800XT. I'm mainly upgrading my motherboard, CPU, and RAM, transitioning from DDR4/AM4 to DDR5/AM5, which is a bit pricey. I've set aside $1000 for this upgrade, but I'm unsure where my bottleneck lies and what new AMD CPU I should consider. Any advice would be appreciated!

You really don’t have a bottleneck with your setup. The Ryzen 5 5600X is still a strong CPU for the 7800XT, and it should perform well in most scenarios, especially in non-CPU demanding games. You might not even need to upgrade right now! Just enjoy your current build and focus on other upgrades like a new monitor or peripherals.

Haha, true, but I really want to future-proof my system with some upgrades!

Honestly, your current components are quite capable. If you're looking to spend your budget wisely, I'd suggest holding off on the big upgrades for now. RAM prices are ridiculous right now, and the difference in performance may not justify the costs. Maybe consider an ultrawide monitor instead?

Put that money back in savings! New components are super overpriced right now, especially RAM. Your setup is balanced and working fine as is, just enjoy it until you really need to upgrade. Trust me, no need to rush into a change!

If you're determined to upgrade, consider going for an AM5 setup, possibly with a 9700X and 32GB of DDR5. That alone could set you back quite a bit, but it's a solid upgrade path. However, I’d still recommend saving that $1000 for future upgrades instead. Your current system is still very capable!

Thanks! I really just want to ensure I'm not missing out on any significant performance boost.

There isn’t really a significant bottleneck in your rig. The Ryzen 5 is good for what you have, and only in heavily CPU-bound games might you start to feel the pressure. If you feel like upgrading, look for future upgrades down the road instead of spending all your cash now!
