Computer Won’t Power Up After Installing a New SATA SSD

Hey everyone! I recently tried to add a new SATA SSD to my Asus H310M-K motherboard, which already has an SSD and HDD. I was just looking for some extra storage for gaming. I connected the power supply and plugged the SSD into the SATA port, but when I turned the computer on, only the RAM and power button lights lit up. The fans didn't start at all. I then disconnected the new SSD completely, but now the computer still won't turn on despite checking all the connections. What did I mess up? Also, can anyone reassure me that my existing SSD and HDD data is safe?

Have you tried unplugging all non-essential components? Just leave the CPU, GPU, and RAM connected and see if it boots up. Sometimes that can help isolate the problem.

I’ll give that a shot, thanks! Just to clarify, are my old SSD and HDD data safe?

Try plugging the new SSD into a different SATA port. Some motherboards can have shared ports, especially if there's an NVMe slot involved, which might prevent booting up properly.

This motherboard doesn’t have an NVMe M.2 port, so that might not be the issue. Still, if unplugging the new SSD doesn’t help, you might need to check other connections.
