Help! My iPhone’s eSIM Won’t Activate – What Can I Do?

I just bought an iPhone from MetroPCS for my mom, but her eSIM seems to be locked and it shows 'SOS' on the screen. I went to a Metro store and they said it might be T-Mobile's fault, but since I bought it there, I'm confused about how that's possible. I thought T-Mobile and MetroPCS were connected. I'm really frustrated because customer service hasn't helped me either, and I've been to multiple stores with different answers. I feel like I've wasted $800 on a phone that doesn't work. Any advice on how to fix this?

Have you thought about returning the phone? MetroPCS has a 14-day return policy if you have the original packaging and receipt. Might be worth checking now before the time runs out!

I did try that, but they refused to help because it’s been over a month since I bought it. The staff were really rude and just told me to figure it out elsewhere.

Did your mom already have service with Metro or T-Mobile before buying the phone? If so, they should have ported her number and transferred the eSIM during purchase. Just a thought!

So, the store said it’s a T-Mobile phone, right? Just to clarify, T-Mobile and MetroPCS operate separately, meaning their locking policies are different. You could check the phone’s IMEI using an online service to see if it’s actually locked to T-Mobile. That might help you understand what's going on.

What does it show as the network it's locked to? Is this an iPhone model with a physical SIM slot too, just in case? Typically, if MetroPCS sells a phone, it should be ready to activate on their network right away.
