I'm upgrading my PC and switched to an AIO cooler. I want to mount the radiator on top, but it's blocked by some VRM heatsinks. Can I safely remove them, and if so, how? Here are my specs:
- Motherboard: B550-E Wifi (Tuf Gaming)
- CPU: Ryzen 5 9600x
- GPU: RX 9060 XT
- RAM: 2x16GB DDR5
- Storage: 1TB SSD, 1TB HDD
- PSU: 650 Watt 80 Plus Gold
- Case: Abkoncore T250 (original version)
I can't share any pictures, but there's a heatsink above the CPU socket and another to the left around the I/O panel, which might be in the way.

Honestly, it’s smart that you reached out before doing anything. Removing VRM heatsinks can lead to overheating and could damage your motherboard. Make sure you find a way to mount that AIO without touching those heatsinks!
Glad you checked first! Keep those heatsinks.
You actually shouldn't need to remove any heatsinks to install your cooler. If you're having issues, double-check your mounting process because it sounds like you might be doing it wrong. No need to compromise your setup by removing those heatsinks!
That's what I thought too! Good to hear I wasn't mistaken.
Yeah, don’t mess with those. Just keep looking for a proper mounting angle.
Removing those VRM heatsinks is generally a bad idea. They help regulate power to your CPU, and without them, you might reduce your motherboard's capability significantly, potentially affecting performance. If your CPU only needs a certain amount of power and you have an AIO that's capable of cooling much more, it raises the question of why even go for the AIO at all? You might not need such an advanced cooling solution if you're not pushing those limits.
Thanks for the insights! I figured it was risky, which is why I asked before making any moves.
It's definitely better to keep the heatsinks, trust me! Better safe than sorry.

Totally agree! Better to be cautious.
