I've been using Linux since October last year, starting with Ubuntu because it seemed like a good fit coming from Windows. However, I feel like I've outgrown it and want to learn more about Linux at a deeper level. I considered jumping straight to Gentoo, but that feels a bit too advanced for my current skills. What are some medium-difficulty Linux distros that you would recommend?

I recommend Fedora if you want something that works smoothly with support for a lot of software. CachyOS might be interesting too, as it's fast but has a bit of a learning curve since it's based on Arch.
You might want to check out Fedora or Debian for a smaller leap from Ubuntu. If you feel ready, Arch could be a great choice, but be sure to have the Arch Wiki handy for the installation process!
OpenSUSE Tumbleweed or Fedora are also solid options. Just a heads up, Gentoo can be quite challenging, even for experienced users. Personally, I only tried it once just to see if I could, and it wasn't exactly easy for gaming after the install.
If you have another computer lying around, try out a few distros to see what you like. They all share core similarities, but each one brings a different philosophy and approach.
If understanding Linux at the hardware level is your goal, definitely consider Arch. It offers a hands-on experience without the extreme complexity of Gentoo. There's a lot you can learn through the installation process!
