I'm considering an upgrade for my gaming PC and currently have an i5 9400f. I'm looking at the i7-9700k and the i9-9900k, but I can only choose one due to my motherboard being lga1151. The i7 is more budget-friendly, which is appealing, but I'm worried about future compatibility since I plan to upgrade my GPU to an RX 9060 XT. Would the i7-9700k work well with the RX 9060 XT, or is it better to invest the extra cash into the i9-9900k despite its higher price and limited performance increase?

What are you using your PC for? If it's mainly gaming, then you'll definitely need to consider performance. I’ve started to see issues in games like Overwatch, RDR2, and Monster Hunter too, and I feel like an upgrade is in my future.
Not worth it, man. I'd really suggest changing platforms. There's a lot of good options out there now that can give you better performance.
You can rarely find a CPU that old without it being priced way too high. I say just make the upgrade already and don’t look back.
If you think about it, 9900k prices are pretty high compared to their actual worth. But, you could also go for an AM4 motherboard with a 5600X. That setup gives you more performance for the same cost, plus future upgrade paths.
Exactly, that's the vibe I’m getting too. It feels like the decision now is between getting the i7 right away or taking a bigger leap with a new motherboard.
Honestly, I wouldn't go for either. It's probably better to save up for a new platform altogether. The lga1151 isn’t really viable anymore, and you'd have better options available with a newer setup. Just a thought!
Yeah, lga1151 does seem pretty outdated now. That's a tough situation!
Both options don't seem worth it. You could spend less on something like a 12400f and a new motherboard. It'll outperform the 9700k, and the overall cost might be lower!
True, but the hassle of switching motherboards is a bit daunting, right? Still, the 12400f is a solid choice.

Yeah, I'm mainly gaming as well. Those performance dips can be super frustrating!
