Why do I have low ping but slow download speeds?

I'm experiencing a frustrating issue where my ping is quite low (between 10-25 ms) for online games like Rainbow Six Siege and Rocket League, but my download speeds are really lacking, only around 1-2 Mbps when using Firefox or Steam. I'm connected via a Cat6 Ethernet cable directly into the wall. However, there's also an extension cord involved. I don't have a Wi-Fi adapter, so I'm relying solely on the wired connection. Here are my specs, just in case: RX 6600, R5 5500, and a B450M A-II motherboard.

It's important to note that low ping doesn't guarantee fast download speeds. They measure different things. You might be experiencing slow downloads due to network congestion on your ISP or issues with the server you're trying to download from. Have you checked what internet speed you're actually paying for? That might give you some clues.

Yeah, it's all about your connection path. Sometimes the server you're connecting to can be slow regardless of your ping.

What speed are you actually paying for with your Internet provider? And about your setup, I haven't seen an Ethernet extension cord either—could it be poorly equipped for high-speed connections? That might be affecting your downloads.

Low ping means your connection to the gaming server is good, but it doesn't always translate to download speed for other applications. Also, if the extension cord isn't suitable for data (like a specialized Ethernet extension), it might cause issues. Have you thought about replacing it?

Exactly! The wrong type of extension can really throttle your speeds.
