I'm curious about the need for a degree in the tech field. If someone can code, solve problems, and build real software, do they still need a degree to land a tech job these days?

Having a degree can definitely help you get noticed since a lot of employers use it as a filter, especially with so many experienced programmers out there currently looking for jobs. Even if you have the skills, without a degree, you might get overlooked during the hiring process.

It's tough for sure. I only have a year of experience myself, so should I focus on improving my coding skills or just buckle down and try to get into a good college? I'm worried that if I focus too much on school, I won't have time to enhance my programming skills.
