Hey everyone,
I recently upgraded my CPU from a Ryzen 7 3700x to a Ryzen 7 5800x, but now my PC is running worse than it did before. I've done a fresh install of Windows, made sure to install the latest drivers, and verified that my RAM is compatible with the new CPU, so everything should be good there.
In AMD Ryzen Master, I'm seeing some strange numbers – for instance, my PPT is showing 6000% of 142W, and my CPU energy consumption is at 3200W, which seems off. I've also got MSI Afterburner running, and I read online that certain software could mess with these readings. I have precision boost enabled too.
The performance drop is significant; I can't even start some games that ran perfectly fine before, and everything feels way laggier. If you need any more details, let me know!
Here are my specs just in case:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x
- GPU: RTX 3070
- Motherboard: Lenovo t550 mb amdp19me2
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3600 2x16GB
- PSU: be quiet! Pure Power 12M 850 Watt

It sounds like you might need to check for a BIOS update on your motherboard. Even though it accepts the newer CPU, some boards need an update to handle it properly. Also, make sure that your RAM speed hasn't been altered; AMD CPUs perform better within a specific range of speeds.
Lastly, how are you updating your NVIDIA drivers? If you're doing it manually, consider using the GeForce App for ease. Sometimes it helps to be sure you're on the latest drivers without any issues.
Thanks for the advice! I did check for a BIOS update, and it says I'm running the latest version. I also switched to updating my NVIDIA drivers through the GeForce App recently, so they should be up to date too.
