Looking for Linux Recommendations as a Total Beginner!

Hey everyone! I'm completely new to Linux and I'm eager to get started. I tried using Ubuntu for just a few days but ran into issues with RuneScape not working, so I switched back to Windows—I'm not a fan of Windows at all! I'm getting a new computer soon, and I'm determined to find a Linux distribution or kernel (not sure what the difference is yet) that suits my needs. I mainly use my PC for gaming and speed is super important for me. Plus, my partner, who isn't very tech-savvy, will also be using it.

So, I'm looking for advice on a few things:
1. Which Linux distribution or kernel would you recommend for someone completely new?
2. What kind of information should I focus on as I start learning?
3. Are there any YouTube videos or resources you suggest?
4. Is there a popular Linux OS that would ensure games like RuneScape will install easily and work properly?
5. Any tips for getting started with the installation?

I'm fairly tech-savvy when it comes to hardware, but things get confusing when it turns to code. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for helping me on this journey!

First off, it's great that you're willing to try Linux again! Just remember, Linux isn't Windows, so there might be a learning curve. Look at the applications you and your partner use and check if they have Linux versions. For gaming, platforms like Steam have a good number of games that work on Linux. I recommend checking out ProtonDB to see how well your games perform on Linux. So before you dive in, take your time to research what you need and make sure Linux fits your specific use case.
