Is My Internet Filter Malfunctioning?

I recently installed a parental filter on my internet, but I've been getting some odd notifications. A few weeks ago, I received an alert that someone tried to access adult websites on our MetaQuest. Then, just yesterday, I got a similar notification about attempts on our Xbox. I'm wondering if it's possible for this to happen without anyone in my household actually trying to view these sites. Could there be some kind of hacking involved, or is someone using our IP to access these sites? The domain was sentry-public.kink.com, which seems strange to me since I'm not very tech-savvy. I'd appreciate any advice or information on this situation, as I want to avoid jumping to conclusions about my family.

It’s not uncommon for parental filters to trigger false positives, but typically they work to block real threats. If your kids are older, they might be doing some sneaky browsing. It could also be something like ads loading while they visit other sites. To be safe, I’d suggest checking the filter settings. Maybe escalate the filter level or monitor the traffic for a few days to see what’s really going on. Better to stay informed than risk them trying to bypass your settings!

The domain "sentry-public" sounds like it might be linked to a sort of age-gate or verification page. It’s likely that someone in your household did visit a flagged site. While it’s true that ads can potentially load inappropriate content, if your filter is doing its job, it’s doing a good job blocking direct access. I recommend a calm conversation about internet use rather than just accusations—as sometimes being too strict can push them to find ways around your filters.

If the rest of the domain is familiar, then it seems like you may have found your answer. However, the chance of someone hacking your network and using your devices for that purpose is really slim. If they weren’t familiar websites that were attempted to be accessed from your VR or Xbox, I’d lean more toward a misunderstanding or accidental browsing. Keep an eye on their activity and talk to them gently about their online habits.

I agree, the unfamiliarity of the site just worries me. I’ll definitely look into their browsing history more closely but without being overly harsh.
