Looking for Backup Solutions for Easy CMS

Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a bind with my work website, and I could really use some insights. We've been using a CMS called Easy CMS, and to be honest, the whole experience has been frustrating. I'm not a web developer, but I ended up spending countless late nights populating our large site manually after a supposed quick migration from our old PHP site. The support from the company has been nearly nonexistent, and I'm eager to find a way to back up everything and eventually move away from them. Is there a way to obtain a backup of our site without relying on the developer, since I can't find anything in the dashboard? Thanks for any help!

It seems like Easy CMS is aimed more at digital signage and is likely a hosted service, which makes it hard to obtain a backup. Even if you did get one, the data might not be in a usable format. Your best bet would be to hire a developer to write a web crawler to scrape the necessary info from your site, then build a new system on a different CMS. If the site is critical for your work, make sure to get a retainer with clear terms from the developer!

You might want to consider bringing in a new developer or agency. It’s best to set the requirement for using an open-source or commercially available CMS instead of sticking with a custom system. For getting your data, you have two options: you could scrape it or request a backup from your current provider. Sometimes, scraping the site can be easier than deciphering the database structure of the existing CMS. I can't speak on Easy CMS specifically, but CraftCMS has been a solid choice for me in the past.

Thank you, I will look into that!

If Easy CMS is a proprietary system and you don’t have server or database access, you won’t be able to do a full backup yourself. You might be able to export some content and media, but planning a migration to a new CMS might be necessary.
