Looking for a Laptop and Tool Backpack Recommendation

I'm a sysadmin who often travels to around 20 different locations. While I have a personal laptop backpack I use daily, it doesn't fit the bill for carrying tools. I'm on the hunt for a new backpack that can hold standard tools alongside my laptop. I also have a separate bag for power tools, but I'm looking for something that provides better organization and protection for my tech. It doesn't have to be extravagant or expensive—ideally under $120. Any suggestions?

Check out the Swissgear ScanSmart! It's an awesome laptop backpack that offers tons of space for your tools and tech gear. I’ve had mine for years and it's still going strong, perfect for travel and daily use!

I can vouch for that too! I've traveled with mine all over and it's super durable.

What kind of tools are we talking about? For me, it's often just a couple of screwdrivers and a flashlight, but I’d love to know what you typically carry.

I usually have pliers, snips, wire crimps, and some extra cabling. Since we're a small team, we wear a lot of different hats!

Have you checked out the Hazard4 Pillbox? It's awesome for organizing tools and has super protective compartments. Definitely my daily go-to for carrying tech in and out.

I got an Ogio backpack from a conference. It works great for carrying my wires and hand tools without being too bulky. Besides that, I use a regular laptop bag for daily needs and only whip out the tool bag when necessary.

That's kinda what I'm aiming for! I want something that can hold my laptop when needed, but I mainly have an everyday carry backpack for regular visits.

Klein makes a tech tool backpack that’s pretty solid and has great padding for laptops. It’s filled with pockets, but be ready for a bit of weight. I eventually switched to a more compact setup since I didn’t need all my tools on the go.

Nice! I was just looking at that option. Perfect for keeping it ready for when I need to head out.

I’ve seen some great reviews for the Thule Crossover 2. I got one back in 2018 and it’s held up really well even with all my offshore travels. Still looks great with a good wash!

Was actually considering one of those! Could be a perfect replacement for my current EDC bag.
