I'm using a 14700kf and I've noticed some wild temperature readings after setting up my PC at my girlfriend's place. My fans went into overdrive, and CoreTemp showed my CPU hitting 100°C even when I'm just idling on the desktop. It seems to drop back down to 30-40°C for a few seconds, but as soon as I open anything, like Chrome, it spikes back up to 100°C again. I've already checked the hardware and cooling setup – the cooler is securely attached and the thermal paste is good. I even tried turning off Asus Multicore on my Z790-P motherboard and slightly undervolting, but nothing's changed. Any ideas or suggestions?

That temperature is definitely concerning. I recommend downloading HWiNFO to check your CPU temps, particularly the Tctl/Tdie readings. If it's showing 100°C, you might have a CPU sensor issue. It could very well be a faulty sensor, so it’s worth looking into further. If the temps are accurate, then it’s a bigger problem to address!
I’m thinking there could be a sensor issue too, especially since you mentioned the erratic numbers started after transporting the PC. Make sure everything's well connected. That fan noise is a real pain, especially if it’s ramping up just for a browser!
Make sure your BIOS is up to date. Also, look into the AC/DC LL settings or check out a video from Actual Hardcore Overclocking on YouTube. His insights on overclocking and settings for 14th gen CPUs, even for the 14900K, could really help – the settings should be similar for your Asus motherboard. If there's nothing wrong with your cooler, it might be worth checking out!
Are you seeing the same temps reported by other monitoring programs? Also, what kind of cooler are you using? That could help narrow down the issue.

For Intel CPUs, you’re looking for "Tjunction". Just a heads-up on the terminology!
