My PC is Acting Up – Loud Noises and Sudden Shutdowns

Hey everyone, I'm hoping for some advice. For the past few days, my PC has been making a loud noise when I turn it on, which I think is coming from the fans, but I'm not entirely sure. Normally, when this happens, I turn it off immediately, and then when I power it on again, the noise stops. However, earlier today while I was just using my PC (not even gaming), it unexpectedly shut down, and I couldn't turn it back on. I ended up disconnecting the power cable and pressing the power button for 20 seconds. After reconnecting the power, it started working fine again. I'm starting to get really worried about this issue. ChatGPT suggested it might be a problem with my power supply unit (PSU), but I'm skeptical. Does anyone have any insights on what could be causing this odd behavior? Do you think it's safe to turn it on again? I don't smell anything burning, and there's no smoke. My PSU is a CX Series CX650, 650W, 80 Plus Bronze, my CPU is an AMD Ryzen 5 5500, and I have an ASRock RX 6600 GPU.

It sounds like your power supply unit (PSU) could indeed be failing. That loud noise you hear might be a sign of a dying fan or components inside the PSU. When it shuts down suddenly, it could be an issue with power delivery or overheating. I would recommend checking the connections and vents for dust buildup, as that could also cause fan issues. If it keeps happening, consider replacing the PSU to avoid further damage to your components.

That’s definitely concerning! It could be a few things – it might be your PSU, as suggested, especially if the noise is persistent. Have you noticed if it makes the grinding sound or a high-pitched screech? That info helps. You could also check if your RAM is securely in place. Poorly seated RAM can cause weird issues too. If you're comfortable with it, try reseating your RAM and see if that changes anything. And yeah, letting it rest for a bit before powering it back up is a good idea.
