I'm a self-taught Front-End Developer and have gained experience by working on real projects using React, Next.js, and various modern web tools. Though I'm confident in my skills, I sometimes face challenges related to not having a formal IT degree. I'm looking for advice from industry professionals on how to enhance my opportunities in the job market. What should I focus on to stand out?

I’m in the same boat; I’ve never done a traditional IT degree either. In my opinion, if a company is only looking for applicants with a degree, they probably don’t understand what really matters in this field. Focus on your skills and projects instead!

From my experience, I've worked my entire career as a developer without a degree, and honestly, it rarely comes up in discussions. Most employers I've dealt with prioritize skills over formal education, especially in smaller companies that care more about what you can do than where you went to school. Just keep honing your skills and applying to places that value talent over degrees!

That’s reassuring! I feel like as a junior, it might be tougher without a degree, but it’s good to hear that experience and skills can also shine through.

Exactly! Even if it comes up with recruiters, it doesn't necessarily eliminate you from contention. It's more about proving you can do the job.

Honestly, it doesn't come up much at all! I've been in the tech space for over a decade, and while I went to a bootcamp, I rarely mention it on my resume. It's more about showcasing your skills and less about where you learned them.

I hear you, but in Morocco, it feels like having a degree is more important than skills, which makes it rough for self-taught folks.

Exactly! The industry is evolving, and it's often about what you've accomplished rather than how you got there.

Are you already working in the field? If so, it shouldn't be much of an issue. Simply keep adding relevant experiences to your resume. But if you're trying to break in for the first time, it could be tougher in certain markets, like the US.

Yeah, I've heard it can be pretty challenging to get that first job without a degree, especially over here.

I’ve been in the field around 16 years now, and I've seen that it's primarily about what you can deliver once you're in a job. If employers still focus on your degree rather than your capability, they probably don't fully understand the role they’re hiring for.
