Should I Uninstall OneDrive on My Windows 11 PC?

I'm looking to free up storage on my Windows 11 computer and thought about removing applications I don't use. OneDrive is one of those apps, but I've heard that deleting it could lead to some potential issues. I mainly use my computer for drawing and downloading music, and I'm hesitant because I don't want to lose any files. Can anyone share what happens if I remove OneDrive? Will I really gain more storage, or is it not worth the risk?

OneDrive is more of a backup solution than a storage hog. Deleting it might not result in much free space at all. Most users benefit from simply disabling the syncing features if they don’t want everything backed up without control. If you're worried about losing access to files, consider that you can also use other cloud storage options if you need them.

Removing OneDrive won’t really give you much extra space. It mainly serves as cloud storage, and the files stored there aren’t taking up space on your computer anyway. If you open OneDrive and don’t have an account signed in, it means you probably haven’t used it, so there's no risk in deleting it. Plus, reinstalling it later is quick and easy if you change your mind. To truly free up space, consider uninstalling larger programs instead or look into upgrading your storage if you're running low.

Uninstalling OneDrive won’t solve your storage problems since it doesn’t take up much space by itself. Instead, check out tools like Disk Cleanup in Windows to see if there are unnecessary files hogging space. Also, think about upgrading your hard drive if you’re still running out of room; that's usually more effective than just removing OneDrive.

If you don’t mind some privacy concerns, OneDrive can be handy for keeping your files accessible without taking up local space. You can offload files to the cloud and still have them linked on your PC so you can access them anytime online. But honestly, if you haven’t used OneDrive much and just want to clear some space, disabling it makes sense. You won’t lose any files that are stored locally.

Honestly, I'd advise against relying too much on cloud storage. It's better to have your files backed up on physical drives. If you can, get a couple of drives to save important files rather than using OneDrive. It gives you more control and security over your data.
