Should I upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5700x3d from a Ryzen 5 5600 in 2026?

I'm weighing whether it's worth upgrading my CPU from a Ryzen 5 5600 to the Ryzen 7 5700x3d in my current AM4 setup this year. The upgrade costs around $310, which feels steep compared to the $310 price tag of a 7800x3d. I'm primarily gaming at 1080p, especially playing ultra-modified Skyrim, which is heavy on CPU usage. With DDR5 prices still high, I can't shift to AM5 right now. My current setup includes an Asus A320M-K motherboard, an RTX 4070 Super GPU, 32GB of 3600MHz DDR4 RAM, a 2TB NVMe drive, and a 75Hz Dell monitor. Is upgrading the CPU worth it, or should I consider getting a new monitor instead, possibly using Lossless Scaling? I appreciate any advice!

I’d definitely say go for it! Upgrading to the 5700x3d will significantly boost your gaming performance. The good news is that you can always sell your 5600 once you're satisfied with the new CPU to recoup some costs. Then you can keep an eye out for a monitor upgrade down the line.

Exactly! Selling your old parts can help fund your next upgrade too. Just make sure the market stays favorable.

Consider keeping an eye out for deals! Just last year, I bought my 5700x3d for a steal at $110, but now it’s climbing up. If $310 is okay with your budget, I'd say go for it and enjoy the upgrade!

It sounds like a solid upgrade for gaming, especially at 1080p. You should feel a big difference with the 5700x3d, particularly in CPU-intensive games like Skyrim. But given your monitor's 75 Hz refresh rate, you might want to think about upgrading that to a 144 Hz display for an even better experience. If possible, maybe look for a good deal on the CPU first before making the jump.

Yeah, with a higher refresh rate, your gameplay will feel a lot smoother. It's all about getting the best performance for your setup!

Don't forget to evaluate selling some of your older components. If you can sell the CPU, RAM, or motherboard, you might find yourself with enough cash to explore some AM5 options too. The new tech is enticing, but it all comes down to your personal needs and budget.
