I'm trying to find a way to center widgets on my KDE Plasma desktop, but there doesn't seem to be a grid or magnetic alignment feature available. The closest I've gotten is using spacers to position them roughly. I've heard there used to be a grid function in older versions of Plasma, is that true? Why hasn't something like that been implemented again, and how hard would it be to add?

Honestly, features like these usually require resources that only big companies like Apple and Microsoft usually have for such 'sorcery' in design.
I just don’t use widgets at all. For some, they just complicate things.
One workaround I've found is to create a custom wallpaper using a graphic editor like GIMP. You can set it to your screen resolution and add grid lines for alignment. Red lines for halves and blue for thirds can be really helpful for centering your widgets.
Sounds like a fun excuse to learn GIMP! I might give that a shot.
If you're trying to center widgets on your panel, the first step might be centering the panel itself. But it seems like that's not quite what you're asking about.

Yeah, I was thinking the same! A wallpaper with grid lines would definitely help keep everything aligned.
