How can I prevent my grandma from downloading unwanted apps while keeping her existing ones updated?

I'm looking for a way to stop my grandma from accidentally downloading apps that pop up when she browses TikTok. She doesn't know how to navigate her phone very well, and I spend a lot of time uninstalling useless cleanup and photo recovery apps each week. All she needs are WhatsApp, TikTok, Instagram, and a few other things my family sends her. I've tried using parental controls, but they don't seem to stop these apps since many are rated for everyone. I need a solution that keeps her current apps updated without giving her access to download new ones. She's using a Samsung Android phone.

Unfortunately, you can't completely disable the Play Store and still receive updates for existing apps. A good workaround is to set up Google Family Link, so she needs your permission to install new apps, or you could just let the Galaxy Store handle updates for the apps she's already using.

You might want to consider using an app lock if that's an option. Also, you could limit the Google Play Store's daily usage to just a minute. That way, she can't accidentally download anything new without your approval.

One approach is to remove her Google account from the phone. This will keep all her installed apps but stop new downloads from the Play Store. Just check how that affects updates for her existing apps.
