Should I be worried after a random file downloaded on my Mac?

I was watching a movie on my MacBook Air when a file named "OperaSetup.zip" downloaded automatically without my consent. I have AdBlock installed and I didn't open the file; I deleted it right away from both the trash bin and my browser. Am I at risk of an infection? Should I take any additional precautions? I'm really stressed out since this is my first experience with something like this.

You might want to be pickier about the sites you visit for streaming movies in the future. Just some friendly advice to keep your browsing safer!

You're all good! Since you didn’t open the file, there's really no need to worry. Malware only activates once you run it. Just having the downloaded file sitting in your Trash doesn't pose any risk.

Double-check your browser settings! It’s possible you’ve set it to auto-download files without asking. Make sure you have the recommended security settings enabled, and it wouldn’t hurt to review any extensions and update your browser if needed.

To put your mind at ease, it might be a good idea to run a quick malware scan. But honestly, you're safe. Just make sure to keep your software updated and avoid any sketchy sites in the future.

Thanks for the reassurance! I'll definitely run a scan just to be sure.
