Is 40 CL RAM acceptable for gaming with my high-end setup?

I recently purchased RAM that was advertised as 64GB 6000MHz CL30, but I discovered it is actually 40 CL after buying it. Amazon refunded the purchase, so now I have this RAM for free. I'm wondering if the 40 CL rating will impact my gaming experience with my setup, which includes a 5080 GPU and an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor. Will it hinder performance in high-end games?

No worries! The latency difference is measured in nanoseconds, not milliseconds. Even though CL30 is faster, the real-world performance impact is minimal. Your 9800X3D handles higher CL RAM quite well too, so you're in a good spot!

That's true! The X3D processors are optimized for this, so you'll be just fine.

For sure, people often exaggerate the importance of CL numbers in gaming.

Nope, they're letting you keep it for free? That's a steal! You might not even notice the difference in performance with your rig, especially if you're focusing on high FPS in games.

Yeah, but with GPUs and NVMe drives costing so much, I guess they have to keep customers happy somehow.

I've been in a similar situation! I had my RAM not running at optimal settings for a year, and honestly, I didn't notice any issues until I checked. You'll be just fine with what you have!

You're good to go! The 6000MHz speed is what really counts, and your X3D chip will compensate for the slightly higher CL. Unless you're really fussy about min-maxing, it won't affect your gaming much at all.

Interesting! I've been thinking about getting into AM5 and was curious about the performance differences.

I have CL40 RAM in my laptop, and it works perfectly fine for gaming. The differences are minor, so you shouldn't worry about it too much!

You probably won't notice much of a difference in gaming performance. If you want to experiment, you could even try overclocking the RAM a bit. In most cases, it won't hold you back that much.
