I'm looking for a stable and easily customizable Linux distribution for my old dual core machine. It would be great if you could recommend a few options that run well and don't require too much hassle to set up.

Debian with XFCE is also a great choice; it’s lightweight and stable.
Have you considered Cachyos? It's really optimized for older systems and I've used it on a Celeron with 4GB of RAM without any issues.
It could help to know more about your machine's specs. I've got an old Lenovo dual core laptop that runs Ubuntu just fine, but details like the processor model, RAM, and storage capacity can make a big difference when recommending distros!
Oops, sorry! Here are my specs: Intel J3355 at 2.0 GHz, 8GB DDR3 RAM, and a 1TB HDD.
You might want to try out MX Linux. It's known for being user-friendly and has good support for older hardware.
What desktop environment do you suggest? I feel like it has several options!

Thanks for the suggestion! I've heard good things about Cachyos.
