Looking for a Budget-Friendly Upgrade from AM4 to AM5

I'm considering an upgrade from AM4 to AM5 since I've just purchased a 7800 XT. However, I'm experiencing some bottleneck issues with my current CPU (Ryzen 5 5600) and RAM. For instance, in games like Arc Raiders, my GPU is only hitting about 50% usage while both my CPU and RAM are maxing out in the 90% range at 1080p. I'm curious about what a budget CPU and motherboard combo would look like. I'm leaning towards the B850 motherboard, which is slightly higher in price compared to the B650. What CPU would you recommend to avoid bottlenecking during gameplay? On the RAM side, would I be okay with 16GB, or should I aim for 32GB? Is there anything else I should consider before making this upgrade?

Just a thought, have you considered playing at 1440p instead? It could help utilize your GPU better and reduce the bottleneck you're experiencing. But honestly, if you can hold off a bit, prices are really high right now.

Honestly, it really depends on how much performance you're actually losing. If your frame rates are decent and you're just slightly behind your friends, it could be okay to stick with your current setup for a bit longer. But if you want a serious boost, I'd upgrade that CPU to something like a Ryzen 7 5700X or 5700X3D. Just be aware that moving to AM5 could hit your wallet hard because of RAM costs right now.

If you're sticking with AM4, I'd suggest getting the Ryzen 7 5700X or whatever is cheaper between the 5700X and 5800X. As for AM5, you’ll need a B850 motherboard and a CPU like the Ryzen 5 7500X3D if you're up for it. But keep in mind, this shift to AM5 can get pretty pricey. You're looking at about €700-800 for a full setup.

You’re right that AM5 requires new, and pretty pricey, RAM. But you can find a 16GB DDR5 stick for around €150 if you're looking for a deal. Just remember, if you want to future-proof your build a bit, consider going for 32GB. It's a solid investment.

I’d say try to hang on to your AM4 setup if possible. If you're seeing high usage on CPU and RAM, then yes, a good CPU upgrade could help. But jumping to AM5 right now with RAM being so expensive may not be the best move unless you really want to.
