Is Google Drive a More Affordable Option Compared to AWS S3 for Cloud Storage?

I'm in the process of developing a cloud backup solution for my company and looking into various storage options. While researching, I found that Google Drive offers a much lower cost compared to AWS S3—specifically, $1.99 per month for 100GB on Google Drive versus $2.30 for 100GB on S3, not factoring in any additional request fees. This raises a question for me: Are there other cloud storage solutions or AWS tiers that are more cost-effective than Google Drive?

S3 offers various tiers, such as S3 Infrequent Access and Glacier, which can be cheaper if you don't need immediate access to your data. Just be cautious about transfer and retrieval costs, as they can add up.

Backblaze B2 could be a great affordable alternative to AWS for backups. It tends to be much cheaper than S3, but keep in mind that Google Drive does have some limitations.

If you're looking for cheaper options, you might want to check out AWS Glacier Deep Archive, which is around $1 per TB per month. Just remember that costs can rise when you actually need to retrieve data, which often isn’t frequent for backups.

You should consider what you want from your storage solution. Google Drive doesn’t offer features like snapshots or WORM protection, which are important for proper backups. It's fine for cheap file storage, but calling it a backup service could be risky if malware can easily mess with your files.

It’s important to differentiate between Google Drive and Google Cloud Storage. While both store files, they are designed for different users—Drive is meant for the everyday person and S3 targets developers and apps. This means they have different pricing, access methods, and features.
