Help! Dameware Mini Remote Control Keeps Crashing on My VM

I've been using Dameware Mini Remote Control for years and really enjoy it, but recently I've been encountering a frustrating issue where the DWMRC client app keeps crashing unexpectedly. This happens both while I'm connected to a host and even when the app is just sitting idle. I'm currently on version 12.3.2.5 (64-bit), and this issue has persisted across different versions. I've checked the application event log, and here's what I found: SolarWinds support claims that using the DWMRC client on a VM (specifically, I'm running it on a Parallels Windows 10 LTSC VM on macOS) isn't officially supported, so they couldn't offer much help after looking into it. Strangely, sometimes the crashing stops and the app runs fine until I reboot my Windows desktop. After rebooting, it starts crashing again. Has anyone else faced this issue and found a solution? I would appreciate any insights!

Sounds like a classic case of bad VM support! The ICM32.dll crash suggests your graphics rendering could be the culprit. Try disabling 3D acceleration in your VM settings and see if that helps. Honestly, considering how outdated Dameware is, it might be worth looking into other remote tools like Screen Connect instead. Good luck!

I tried that and it actually did help! Parallels 26 doesn't show a 3D acceleration option anymore, but I found out you can add the boot flag 'video.metal=0' to achieve the same effect. DWMRC didn't crash while idle connected, although the change impacted my desktop’s graphics performance. Might explore better alternatives now.

Yeah, I feel you on this. Remote tools have come a long way since Dameware's heyday. If it keeps crashing, don’t hesitate to switch!

Have you tried adjusting the Windows scaling settings? Setting it to 100% can sometimes resolve these kinds of issues.

I’m already set to 100% on both my client and remote hosts, but thanks!
