Help! My PC Keeps Crashing with a Black Screen While Gaming

I'm experiencing some frustrating issues with my gaming PC, and I really need your help. Here's my setup: I'm using an AMD 5800X CPU, RTX 6750 XT GPU, and 32GB of Trident Z Neo RAM (2x16GB). The motherboard is a Tomahawk B550 MSI, and I'm running Windows 11. I built my PC back in January 2024.

Recently, my PC has started crashing during gaming sessions, showing a black screen and a countdown to restart. This began about a week ago. Initially, I had the XMP profile activated, but after identifying a faulty RAM stick through OCCT testing, I removed it and the errors stopped. It's been stable during stress tests afterward. However, when I try to play games like Helldivers 2, it still crashes after about an hour, and I can't find any specific errors in the Event Viewer.

I've already formatted my system and done a clean install of Windows without any luck. I've run various diagnostics (like /scannow) and checked for disk errors, but everything seems fine in that regard. I'm starting to think that I might need to replace components like the PSU or the motherboard because I can't pinpoint the issue. Do you think I should attempt a CMOS reset or maybe a CMOS pin bridge? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Those LiveKernelEvent errors you're seeing could indicate a deeper problem with your graphics drivers. Make sure your drivers are up to date, and consider doing a clean reinstall of them. Sometimes remnants from old drivers can cause conflicts, especially after system formats.

I've heard about old drivers causing issues before! I'll definitely give this a try. Thanks for the heads up!

Have you checked your PSU? If it’s not delivering enough power, it could cause your system to crash under load. I’d recommend testing it with a power supply tester if you have access to one. Also, consider the motherboard; if it’s failing, that could lead to a ton of issues as well.

I suspect it might be the PSU too. I’ll check if it’s performing well. Thanks for the suggestion!

It sounds like the memory stick you pulled out was definitely causing issues. Since the crashes persist even with a single RAM kit, I'd recommend RMA-ing or replacing your remaining memory. It might help to swap in a new kit to see if that alleviates the crashing during gaming. If the problems continue with new RAM, we might need to look at other hardware like the PSU or motherboard.

Yeah, I agree! I had a similar problem where bad RAM was causing crashes too. After I swapped it out, my issues disappeared. Just be careful - if you keep getting crashes after changing the memory, it could point to another hardware issue.
