I'm considering using an Azure virtual machine to simulate a small-scale DDoS attack on my physical network in order to test my DDoS mitigation tools. Since I have explicit permission for this on my own infrastructure, I want to know if doing so would violate Azure's terms and conditions. A colleague warned me that it might lead to account suspension, even though I'm only testing my own setup. What are your thoughts?

I understand wanting to test your tools, but using Azure VMs for this could be risky. If you really want to go down this path, maybe consider using a throwaway account? But again, the Chaos Studio is now available and they’ve made it cheaper and easier to stress test.
You could have just searched for this info. It’s pretty common knowledge that simulating attacks like that is frowned upon in the Azure community. Better to use the proper tools provided.
Your colleague is right, you should avoid doing that. Azure's terms of service prohibit such actions, even if you're just testing your own network. Instead, check out the Azure Chaos Studio, which is specifically designed for safe stress testing.
Honestly, I think it's better not to try it. Testing like this could result in account suspension since it's generally against the rules of engagement for Azure. Just stick to sanctioned tools like Chaos Studio.
