Hi everyone! I've been facing a frustrating issue recently. For about a week now, whenever we receive external emails written in Japanese, they're turning into mojibake – you know, those garbled characters that make no sense. This wasn't a problem for us in the past, and I can't pinpoint any changes we've made on our side. I'm seeing this happen with emails from three different external domains. I tried adjusting the encoding settings for some of our users, but that didn't help. We also reached out to one of the vendors, but they don't think the problem is on their end. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Have you checked what transportation rules you're using? Also, are you employing any mail apps like CodeTwo to add HTML signatures to your outgoing emails? Since you're dealing with mojibake, it might be worth looking into whether your users have their OS language set to Japanese. These factors could definitely influence encoding issues.

Thanks for the tips! For your first question, by transportation rules, did you mean mail flow rules? We've got a few set up, but they were created quite a while ago and aren't related to Japanese emails. Also, I don't think we're using any such specific apps. As for the OS language, we do have some users with Japanese set, but others have it as an option while keeping English as their default. Everyone seems to be having the same mojibake issue.
