Is 16GB of VRAM Sufficient for Gaming at 1440p?

I'm curious if 16GB of VRAM is enough these days because it feels like it might not be. I upgraded my setup recently to a 14600KF and 9060XT but I'm still using an old 1080p monitor at 60Hz. I've noticed that some games can use around 12GB of VRAM, and titles like Resident Evil 4 and Cyberpunk 2077 reach up to 14GB. Is this normal for modern games? On another note, I'm considering getting a new monitor with 1440p resolution at 144Hz. Is that upgrade worth it? Given the demands of games, would I need to lower settings or make sacrifices to achieve decent frame rates? Should I just get a 9070XT, or perhaps wait for the next generation of GPUs?

I recently upgraded from a 7700XT with 12GB to a 9070XT with 16GB, and it feels way more future-proof. With the right settings, you'll get a solid performance boost. Just make sure you are getting a good balance between settings and FPS.

Yeah, 16GB is generally fine for 1440p. Some have even run games at 4K with that much VRAM! Just remember, VRAM usage can vary by game. Don’t stress too much about it, just enjoy your gaming!

In my experience, 12GB worked fine for 1440p gaming on my setup. VRAM usage is a tricky beast because it doesn’t always reflect what you need—if you keep your expectations realistic, you should be good!

Honestly, 16GB of VRAM should be plenty for now, especially if you're gaming at 1440p. Most games won’t push beyond that, so you should be fine. Also, 1440p monitors offer a significant improvement in image quality and the higher refresh rates are a game changer for smooth gameplay.

Totally agree, 1440p feels like the sweet spot right now for many gamers.

Higher refresh rates make a huge difference—way more than just better resolution! You’ll really notice the jump from 60Hz to 144Hz. It's like night and day! Try locking your games at 30FPS, and then bump it to 60FPS to see what I mean!
