Why is my laptop’s Bluetooth range so limited?

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad running Windows 11, and I'm only getting about 10 centimeters of range with my Bluetooth. This means my speaker has to be right next to my laptop to work, and my earbuds don't connect properly from a distance. I've tried a bunch of things like uninstalling, rolling back, and updating my Bluetooth drivers, but nothing seems to fix the issue.

Another option would be to get a long-range USB Bluetooth adapter. These adapters often have antennas and can significantly improve your Bluetooth range compared to the built-in option. They typically cost around $10-$20, and you can easily unplug it when you're on the go if you don't want it sticking out.

It sounds like there might be an issue with the antenna wires connected to your laptop's wireless card. If you're comfortable, you could open up the back of your laptop and check that the wires are properly connected and not damaged. This could be the cause of your limited Bluetooth range.

Before jumping into hardware fixes, make sure to test your device with multiple Bluetooth accessories to rule out compatibility issues. If they're all having range problems, it might be time to consider those hardware options.
