Is it safe to delete old backup sets from my external SSD?

I found over 500GB of backup sets on my external SSD and I'm wondering if it's safe to delete them. I heard that I should only keep the latest backup, but how can I configure Windows to ensure it only retains that? Also, just to clarify, these aren't system image files, right? Should I consider making one?

It's generally safe to delete older backups as long as you have the latest one. Windows does manage backups, but sometimes it retains old versions for rollback purposes, depending on your settings. You can set up Windows to only keep the latest backup by changing the backup options in your settings. That way, it'll automatically handle older versions without cluttering your drive.

Backup sets are essentially just groups of files that have been saved as backups. Not like backup singers at a concert! If you want to minimize storage use, focus on just keeping the most recent set. As for system images, they're different and essential if you want to restore your whole system in case of a major issue.
