I've been having a strange issue with my MP4 files. Recently, they've started opening in Microsoft Word instead of my usual Media Player. It all began with a single MP4 file, which Word tried to load on its own when I opened it, even though I hadn't selected anything. Now, all my MP4 files act the same way and I can't play them in any media software except Word. I've tried resetting and updating my Media Player, but it hasn't helped. What's going on?

Another approach you can try is to open the Settings app, go to Apps, then Default Apps. Type 'mp4' in the search bar and follow the prompts to select your default media player. You can change the app there too. This should sort out the problem and get your videos playing again.
To fix your MP4 opening in Word, try this: hold the Shift key while right-clicking on any MP4 file. You'll see the Open With... option pop up. Hover over that, then select 'Choose Another App' where you can pick VLC or Media Player. Make sure to check 'Always use this app' to make it permanent. It's an easy way to change your file associations without messing with the registry, which can be risky.
