Hey everyone, I'm currently at a motel for about a week and I'm having trouble connecting my laptop to their free open WiFi. A couple of days ago, I managed to connect after a lot of effort, but now it's not working. I connect to the network without needing a password or anything, but I get a message saying there's no internet access. The Windows diagnostic tool keeps telling me it can't reach the default gateway. I've tried various solutions I found online. The motel staff mentioned I might need to change some security settings to allow monitoring, but I can't find those settings anywhere, and they weren't very helpful. I've managed to connect my phone and laptop in the past by disconnecting and reconnecting a bunch of times, but that isn't working now. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Have you thought about just using your phone as a hotspot next time? It can save you the hassle. By the way, were you able to connect your phone?
If it’s a small motel, maybe you could ask the staff to reset their router by unplugging it for a few seconds and then plugging it back in? That helped me once while traveling.
That’s a good idea, but the guy at the front desk seemed annoyed when I asked for help. I’m also connected to mobile data, so I’m thinking it’s not the router.
This happened to me in a hotel once too. Eventually, the staff agreed to reset the router, and it fixed everything!

Yeah, I had to toggle the WiFi on my phone a few times to get it going. It worked on my laptop a few days ago, but I can't tell if that was part of the solution.
