Is It Normal to Experience Motion Sickness with an Ultrawide Monitor?

I recently switched from a dual monitor setup to an ultrawide display to simplify my device connections. However, I'm finding that I'm experiencing motion sickness due to how far the screen extends into my peripheral vision. It's becoming uncomfortable, especially since I have to turn my head more just to see things like minimaps. Is this a common issue? Will it eventually go away?

Have you moved any closer to the screen than you were before? Even a small adjustment can cause that discomfort. I've experienced this too when I'm too close to my setup.

Exactly! I have a three-monitor setup, and while it works great for driving games, it feels awful for something like Rocket League. Definitely varies by game!

It's not unusual to feel a bit of motion sickness when first using an ultrawide monitor. It's likely because of how much your peripheral vision is engaged now. You don't have to utilize the entire screen for games; if it makes you feel sick, consider adjusting the settings or even sitting a bit further back.

But they aren't asking for medical advice. They just want to know if others have felt this and if it gets better over time!

Make sure to check the latency of your ultrawide monitor. Not all of them are created equal for gaming, and sometimes increased lag can really mess with your senses, causing that motion sickness.

I haven’t had motion sickness per se, but some games do cause me to feel disoriented. Usually, a simple adjustment to the field of view settings helps. It might be worth a shot for you!
