How Can I Recover Files from an SSD That Isn’t Recognized in Windows?

I have a Samsung 860 EVO SSD that was causing boot loop problems on my PC, so I took it out and put it into a SATA enclosure. However, when I connect it to another PC, it doesn't show up in File Explorer, but it does appear in Task Manager and Disk Management. Disk Management indicates that the SSD is 'unknown' and 'not initialized.' Is there any way to recover the files from this SSD?

If you plan to install a new M.2 drive and Windows on it, it shouldn't cause issues with recognizing your 860 EVO once it's connected directly. However, just a heads up—having multiple versions of Windows installed can sometimes create confusion. If you can boot into the Windows installer via USB without your original SSD, connecting the EVO afterward should ideally work, but be cautious. Always try to recover data before going further.

You should try pulling the SSD out of the enclosure and connecting it directly to the motherboard. If it still shows up the same way, then you'll likely need to use some data recovery software to scan for any recoverable data. Just make sure not to initialize or format the SSD because that could make recovery a lot more difficult.
