Should I Stick With AM4 or Upgrade to AM5?

Hey folks, I'm looking for some advice on upgrading my PC. Here's what I've got:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT (6-core)
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT Gaming MX
- RAM: Corsair DDR4 3200 (2x16GB)
- PSU: Cooler Master MWE Bronze 600
- Motherboard: AMD B450M Pro VDH Max

I'm trying to enhance my modded Minecraft experience because it's been pretty laggy. While benchmarking All The Mods 10, I've noticed my CPU usage spikes to 75–90% (sometimes hitting 99%), while my GPU stays low at 10–20%. My 99th percentile FPS averages around 40-50—way lower than my overall average of 80-90 FPS. This seems tied to my CPU, which struggles more with modded Minecraft since it's CPU-intensive.

To fix this, I'm considering a few options: 1) Getting a budget CPU like the 5800XT (will this provide a decent boost?), 2) upgrading to the pricey 5800X3D (worth it at $500?), or 3) switching to AM5 and getting a mid-tier setup, which might save me money in the long run but could be expensive due to RAM prices. I'm totally open to other suggestions or feedback. Thanks for your help! Oh, and I'm sticking with AMD—no way I'm switching! 😈

Definitely stay on AM4! The 5700X and 5800X are solid choices for your upgrade, and they'll give you a good boost in performance. With your current setup, a GPU upgrade will likely yield the most benefits across your games, especially since many games bottleneck at the GPU level. Consider something along the lines of a 6700XT or RX 9060 XT.

I agree, hold off on AM5 for now! The differences in performance between the 5800 series and prior ones are significant and can keep you going for a few more years. Plus, Minecraft is a special case; your GPU upgrade could make a world of difference in that regard. Just make sure to check that your motherboard supports the 5000 series before you make any changes!

If you're thinking about future-proofing, AM5 might be appealing, but it’s quite pricey right now, especially with RAM costs. Just to keep in mind, the 5800X or 5700X CPUs will give you a noticeable upgrade from your current model without breaking the bank. Plus, you're looking at a decent performance jump without all the costs associated with moving to AM5.

I'd recommend sticking with AM4 for now. The RAM prices for AM5 are kind of insane, so it’s not the best time to switch. You have a lot of upgrade potential left with AM4. If you're looking to upgrade your CPU, maybe consider the 5800X or 5900X. The 5800X3D is a bit overpriced since it's out of production, so it might not be worth it right now.

Honestly, if you want the best value, focus on upgrading your CPU to something like the 5800 or 5700X. You could sell your current components down the line and wait a year or two for AM6 to come around without rushing to AM5 now. Your current system can still hold up well for a while longer.
