Why is My Laptop’s CPU Spiking After the Latest Windows Update?

Hey everyone! I've been dealing with some major CPU issues on my Dell Latitude 7320 Detachable after a recent Windows update. It seems like I can't roll back the update anymore, and now whenever I launch a game, my CPU usage shoots up to nearly 100%, sometimes even exceeding that. I've already updated my drivers and adjusted the game settings for "Voidgo," which meets all the necessary specifications. I'm really at a loss here, and even my dad, who has over 16 years in tech support, is stumped. Can anyone help me understand what's causing this and if there's any way to fix it?

Have you checked the CPU tab in Task Manager? It might help to see if the game is actually using up all that CPU power when you launch it.

What does Task Manager show for CPU usage? A screenshot would be super helpful. Also, since your laptop is optimized for business tasks with integrated graphics, we need to know your RAM size too (8GB or 16GB). The game requires at least 4GB to run, so that shouldn't be the issue.

If you're on Windows 11, chances are you're dealing with a lot of background processes. If nothing else works, you might want to consider reverting back to Windows 10.

Check what apps are open when this happens and watch their utilization. Also, take a look at your RAM and drive usage, as well as your virtual memory settings. It might also help to try running a variety of programs to identify any patterns in the spikes.

It sounds like your laptop should handle Windows 11 fine. Try opening Task Manager while running the game to pinpoint what's hogging the resources. If all else fails, you could consider reverting the Windows update, but remember to back up your important files first!
