Upgrading My Aging Gaming PC: Tips and Suggestions Needed!

I'm looking for advice on upgrading my old Zoostorm gaming PC. It's been reliable for a few years now, mainly used for modded Minecraft, CS:GO, and basic gaming, but it's starting to feel a little dated. I'm 23 now and I want to enhance my setup especially since I create video content and just got a Steam Deck. Here are my specs: I have an Intel Core i5-4460 processor, 8 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960, and a 2 TB hard drive. I've recently purchased a Samsung EVO 870 1TB SSD, an additional 8 GB DDR3 RAM stick to increase my total to 16 GB, and a second-hand XFX Radeon RX 580 8GB GPU. I've noticed some rust on my graphics card and took the time to clean out the dust from the inside. I'm trying to make sure I'm on the right track with these upgrades—any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you're doing well with your upgrades! Adding the SSD and the RX 580 will definitely boost your performance, especially for video editing and demanding games. I'd suggest also considering a CPU upgrade if your motherboard supports it—something like an i7 or even a Xeon E3 could give you a nice performance bump. Just keep in mind that older prebuilt systems sometimes come with limitations, especially with their motherboards.

Thanks for the tips! I'll check if the motherboard can handle it. I want to get the most out of this setup for now.

Good point! Maybe I’ll just focus on saving for a more solid upgrade in the future.

Your approach is spot on. New SSD, maxing out the RAM, and upgrading the GPU is the typical playbook for older systems. Just keep in mind that while these upgrades will boost your PC, it might still be lagging behind on modern specs. Consider saving up for a complete overhaul down the line—it’ll be worth it in the long run!

That makes sense, I figured the core components would start to hold me back.
