Why is my RTX 2060 SUPER underperforming in games?

I recently built a PC using some leftover parts I had, and when I tried to play Cyberpunk, I was shocked to see how poorly my RTX 2060 SUPER was performing. At high settings, I was only getting about 4 fps, and even at low settings, it barely managed 30 fps.

I've already tried a bunch of troubleshooting steps: reseated the GPU, switched the PCIe slot, did a clean driver reinstall using DDU, updated the BIOS, and cranked my fans to 100% in Afterburner to prevent thermal throttling.

I'm running a Ryzen 5 2400G CPU with 8 GB of 2400 MHz DDR4 RAM and my RTX 2060 SUPER has 8GB of VRAM. The game is running off a SATA SSD. I do understand that there may be some bottleneck, but it doesn't feel right that my 2060 SUPER would perform worse than the 980 Ti that was in the system before.

If anyone has suggestions or ideas about what could be going wrong, I'd really appreciate the help!

Try using the performance overlay on Steam to get insights into what's going wrong. You can access it through Steam settings under 'In-Game'. It will show you FPS, CPU, GPU, and RAM usage. I recently helped someone with a similar issue, and it turned out their GPU was underclocked. Hitting the automatic overclock button in GeForce Experience fixed everything for them. Also, enabling EXPO in the BIOS could speed up your RAM since 2400 MHz is pretty slow for DDR4.

Thanks for the tip! I checked the performance monitor, and my CPU and GPU are at 100% usage while gaming. I also enabled that setting in the BIOS; it seems to be running faster now. I'll try the auto overclock option in GeForce Experience!

Yeah, I think you may need to look into that. I have the GALAX 2060 SUPER 1-Click OC model too, and sometimes those settings can impact performance. Might be worth a look!

If all else fails, don't hesitate to reach out for more advanced troubleshooting. Sometimes it's a simple fix that can be easily overlooked.

You might want to check if you're running dual monitors. Sometimes having a second display can impact performance, especially in games. If you only have one monitor, though, that shouldn't be an issue.
