What’s Wrong with My LGA 1151 Socket?

I'm having an issue with an LGA 1151 socket on a motherboard that's stuck in a boot loop and showing no video output when I try to use it with an i3 8300. There's a broken pin that looks bent, but I'm wondering if the plastic under the socket might have melted or if it's just an optical illusion. I've attached a photo for reference: https://ibb.co/wFn3Gbv2. What could have caused this damage?

Honestly, you might never truly know how extensive the damage is. If the motherboard isn't working, it might be best to just replace it.

Could just be some dust or maybe even liquid that's settled in there. A closer inspection might help you figure it out. You can’t really tell much from that picture, though!

It sounds like the i3 might have experienced some sort of mini explosion that damaged the socket. It’s possible that the short could have affected other components as well. I'd take a close look at everything before continuing to use it.

That looks like a bent pin that might not be making proper contact with the CPU. It could definitely lead to booting issues.

Yeah, if the pins are bent, the best bet is to get a replacement. It’s tough to say just how much damage there is without a thorough check.
