NVMe SSD Not Showing Up in BIOS – What Can I Do?

I recently installed a Kingston KC3000 NVMe SSD on my Gigabyte B650 GAMING X AX V2 motherboard, but I'm having trouble getting it recognized. The system boots directly to the BIOS, and I see a red BOOT LED on the motherboard. I've checked everything I could think of: reseated the SSD multiple times, tried different M.2 slots, disabled RAID and set it to AHCI, turned off CSM for UEFI mode, loaded optimized defaults, and confirmed the boot order. Despite all this, the SSD doesn't show up anywhere in the BIOS settings or boot options. Interestingly, this issue started before I accidentally snapped the M.2 screw while troubleshooting. Now I'm stuck wondering if the SSD is dead or if there's anything else I might have overlooked. Any suggestions?

It sounds like you might have accidentally damaged the SSD during installation. If the BIOS isn't detecting it at all, then nothing else will either. Did you check if the SSD was recognized with the original drive removed? Sometimes the PCIe lanes can be finicky, although that's not super common. Also, just a heads up, messing with BIOS settings usually doesn't influence detection unless you're dealing with specific configurations.

Unfortunately, NVMe drives can fail sometimes, and I faced a similar issue with my Samsung SSD 980 that just stopped being recognized. Fortunately, it was under warranty, and I got a 990 Pro as a replacement. If your drive is dead, don't hesitate to reach out to Kingston about a warranty replacement; it’s worth a shot!
