Could Downloading a Minecraft Skin Give Me a Virus?

I was browsing for a cool Minecraft skin and ended up on a sketchy website before the download began. I didn't download anything and cleared my browser cache afterward. Could I still be at risk for getting a virus from this? I closed the tab and was using Chrome at the time.

Just visiting a sketchy site won’t infect your system. If you’re really worried, you can always run a scan with Windows Defender or Malwarebytes. I wouldn't stress too much though; it sounds like you handled it well!

Yeah, the chances of getting a virus from just visiting a site are really low. As long as nothing auto-installed or downloaded, you should be fine. Just make sure to run a quick scan if you're feeling anxious about it, especially considering that Minecraft skins can attract some shady websites.

Don't sweat it! If you didn't run any suspicious files, you're probably safe. It's good that you used your common sense. If you did click to allow notifications, consider disabling those since they can lead to annoying scareware popups. But overall, you're good!

Typically, just visiting a website or clicking a link is pretty much safe—especially if you keep your software up to date. The real risk comes when you download and open files. Since you didn't actually download anything, you should be in the clear, but it’s always a good practice to run a malware scan just to be safe!
