I'm looking to enhance my VR gaming experience without going overboard on expenses. Currently, I play Assetto Corsa on my PC, which handles 3440x1440 ultrawide well, but VR is a different beast—I'm experiencing stutters and frame timing issues even with my Rift S. I've recently acquired a used Pimax Crystal Light and a PS2VR, but my current setup isn't powerful enough to run them effectively. My build includes a Ryzen 5 5600X, a Radeon 6750 XT, and 32GB of DDR4 RAM on a B350 motherboard. I also just purchased a 7900 XT for $529, along with an RM850e power supply and a 2TB NVMe drive. Given my investment of about $1,081 so far, I'm trying to figure out if I should keep the 7900 XT and upgrade my CPU and motherboard or return it and go for an NVIDIA card while sticking with my current CPU. Any advice on the best path forward for smooth VR performance without overspending would be greatly appreciated!

Assetto Corsa definitely leans towards NVIDIA cards for better performance. There are benchmarks showing the 5070 beating the 9070 in that game by a significant margin. While the 7900 XT you got is a great deal, if VR and that game are your main focus, you might really benefit from switching to an NVIDIA card, especially since the 5070 has been shown to perform better in those scenarios. For the CPU, try starting with your 5600X first. A platform upgrade can be costly, so see if you run into performance issues with it before committing to a new build.
The Pimax Crystal Light can be demanding, so VRAM is key! The 7900 XT has 20GB, which puts it in a good spot for high textures and mods compared to 16GB variants. I'd suggest the 7800X3D bundle—it's excellent for VR, and you don't need the top-tier setup for smooth gaming. I'm going with a 7900 XTX myself since I want that extra VRAM for VR, but the 7800X3D will work wonders too.
Awesome, thanks! Sounds like the 7800X3D + 7900 XT is a smart combo! Just curious—are you moving from an XT to XTX or from something else?

Thanks for the input! I'm also looking at Benchmark Odyssey for comparisons. I’ve noticed they mostly focus on the 7900 XTX, which complicates things since the XT has different performance metrics. But your suggestion to start with the 5600X makes a lot of sense!
