What to Do When Your Monitor Has No Display After GPU Issues?

I previously had an RX 580 XT paired with my Samsung Odyssey G3 monitor using a DisplayPort cable. Unfortunately, my GPU seems to have failed, and now I'm trying to figure out how to get my setup running again. My CPU is an i5 10400 with integrated graphics, but my motherboard doesn't support DisplayPort connections. I tried switching to HDMI, but my monitor doesn't support HDMI directly, so I used an HDMI cable with a DisplayPort adapter. However, that didn't work either, and the monitor indicated a connection issue. I pulled out an old 1280x1024 square monitor that does support HDMI, and it works fine—though I'd rather not use that! Purchasing another GPU isn't an option right now due to high prices, and I suspect my adapter might be the problem. What steps can I take to use my Samsung Odyssey G3 again? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

How are you sure your GPU is dead? Your PC should still boot with a functioning motherboard. Did you notice any signs of issues like crashes before it failed? It could just be a software problem, possibly related to a bad driver update that AMD pushed out recently.

I honestly don’t know. I asked a chatbot and it suggested it might be dead, but I’m not too savvy. I did notice some crashes under heavy load, which might have been a sign. This morning, after a long session, I got some weird artifacts on the screen, then no GPU appeared in Task Manager.

One option is to get a new GPU since that's usually the simplest fix. If your GPU has truly failed, that's the most straightforward path forward.

So, there's really no alternative? Seems like swapping the GPU might be the only way.
