Trouble Booting Live USB on Dell Latitude 5500

Hey everyone! I'm having some issues with my Dell Latitude 5500 when trying to boot from a live USB. I've experimented with both Kubuntu and CachyOS, and while I can reach the GRUB menu just fine, selecting any option results in a black screen. I've waited about 10 minutes at this stage with no response.

To troubleshoot, I've created the USB drives using both Rufus and balenaEtcher, and reset the BIOS to its default settings. I've also toggled safe boot on and off, but the problem persists. Just to clarify, I've successfully installed Windows 11 on this machine without encountering any issues, and it's important to note that it only has onboard graphics—no dedicated GPU.

Has anyone faced a similar issue or have any advice on how to get past this black screen? Thanks a lot!

You might want to check if you can turn off legacy or CSM in your BIOS settings. It's often a culprit for boot issues like this. If it's completely UEFI with no options for those settings, that's something to keep in mind, though.

Thanks for the suggestion! Unfortunately, I've checked and the BIOS is entirely UEFI with no legacy options available.

I came across some great installation tips that could help. It's always recommended to install while connected to an ethernet cable, and also make sure to remove the boot media once the installation is complete. If you haven’t already, that might help smooth out the installation process.
